Art Deco Glass Vase by D'Avesn for Daum with Scalloped Glass Handles
This French art glass vase is designed by Pierre D'Avesn for Daum. Blown and moulded with applied purple scroll handles and acid etch design on body.
A French Art Deco glass vase in light purple tone with a great textured surface and those dramatic scalloped “handles” that echo some of the shapes created by the glass masters such as Lalique. This example was made for Daum by Pierre D’Avesn. It is hard to imagine the miracle of glass being formed- literally blown through tubes of air into a molten mass and then fashioned with such artistry.
    Round
at top and round at base. Approximately 7" tall by 9" wide . Top is 5.5" in diameter and base is 3.5" diameter.
    Excellent estate condition.
D ' Avesn studied at the École des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. From 1915 until the First World War he worked for Lalique (the Serpent and Tourbillons vases, signed Lalique, are of his hand). In 1927, he started working at Daum. His designs were signed with P. D'Avesn. In 1932 the factory is closed due to the global economic crisis. The vase dates from the period 1926-1930.
