Item Description
Up for your consideration is a very fine French Art Deco lamp, featuring a large signed Daum (Nancy) geometric shade, c. 1925. The shade is signed on the side, including the cross of Lorraine. The base appears to be made of hammered copper, but does not respond to a magnet. Based on the dimension of the finial fitter (which is small), I believe the lamp is European. The shade is a light topaz color, with a precise acid-cutback geometric pattern along the lower border. Both the lamp and shade are from the same era, but I am unsure if it is original. However, the finial is original to the lamp base, and the uniquely small fitter hole in both the finial and shade are the same size (and smaller than American standards). Therefore, the base is likely original.
The shade is large, measuring 9.5" tall, and 16.5" in diameter. The lamp is 23" tall, from the base to the top of the shade. Overall, the lamp weighs about 20 lbs.
Overall, the shade is in excellent condition, with the exception of a tight crack that occurred when the upper hole was drilled (i.e., from manufacture). This is hidden when the heat cap is in place. Otherwise, the shade is in pristine condition, free of chips, cracks, scratches, or restoration.
The base should be rewired. Currently, one of the two sockets is not working, and both pull chains are "sticky". The heat cap is not original. Currently, I am looking for a better replacement. It is 3" in diameter, and needs to be flat.
